Photo above of Pennal Brynmor (Gwenllan Brynmor x Pennal Lively Maid) the 2006 colt who was the winner of the E J Davies Perpetual Memorial Trophy for best youngstock Section D exhibit before collecting the Fronarth Stud Perpetual Challenge Memorial Cup for best overall colt (all sections) before going on to become Supreme Youngstock Champion (again all sections)  judged by Mr W.G Jones, Nebo.  I am looking forward to seeing his first crop of foals, due any time soon for one lucky stud.  If the stud owner invites me up for a sneaky preview with my camera, perhaps I can tell you who it is ;)

What a blessing to have such fine weather after last years cold and wet.  A wealth of big movers turned up to impress the judge who ended the day with a grand variety of types to peruse in the stallion classes.  A few firsts sightings for me: Tymor the Tramp & Brynnebo Magic, both able to belt round the ring as fast as the handlers legs could carry them & both impressive in their own right.  And whilst I have seen Fronarth Welsh Lion before, he seemed so fit and fresh I thought it was the first time I had seen him until I pulled the catalogue out of my pocket.  It was a pleasure to watch Daniel, Ionos Stud (handling him for the afternoon) & to go on to win the Sam and Margaret Morgan Memorial Perpetual Challenge Trophy with him for the Overall Section D Champion.

The C Stallion Tremymor Sportsman was Supreme Show Champion, pipping Fronarth Welsh Lion to Reserve, but the Ds were overall winners in both the Joe Giles perpetual challenge memorial Trophy going to the Bigley's colt Llanarth Fiery Jack (who had also won the D.O Morgan perpetual memorial trophy for best yearling or 2 year old colt)  whilst it was Ionos Ffion, who took the Steffan Stud perpetual challenge memorial cup for best filly.

Within the D classes, the Dr Arwyn Williams perpetual challenge trophy for best yearling  / 2 year old went to the Derwen filly purchased at the reduction sale last September by the Fronarth Stud, Derwen Duges-y-mor.

Now the riddens.  Ah the riddens, bit of a sorry confession as I was so rushed trying to catch this, that and the other I didn't have the opportunity to watch the classes which is a shame because I would have loved to have spared an hour or two silentily critiquing from the safety of the ringside the merits of the cobs, tack and riding ability of the two classes (Are you telling me you don't do this when you watch a ridden class, you liars.) However I did see fit to gatecrash the championship so I can tell you that Arwel Davies' Nebo Joni Jones was the Aberaeron Festival of Welsh Ponies & Cobs champion for the best Overall Ridden Welsh Exhibit in the morning and popped in again at the end to claim the Maesmynach Stud perpetual challenge cup for Supreme Ridden Champion of the show.  Reserve was Ddeusant Diamond Edge owned by Mr & Mrs H Thomas but in the care of the James', Sianwood. (photos below)

Well that is enough of the words, I know you just want to see the photos, who bothers to read my drivel?  Just my Dad I think!

Professional photographer: Anthony Reynolds  & I did spy the Booths as well, so I am sure that there will be an abundance of photos over on the Rainhill site in due course.
