 Well I have been amazed compiling the list of European Welsh Section C & D studs firstly at just how many there were and secondly how well some studs are doing. Its very easy to get sniffy about overseas breeders, but even if you don't get past Belgium, you'll have seen plenty of top class animals. There seems to be a tendency for horses to be kept leaner overseas, this might be to do with their being less of an in-hand tradition, and I have to say this seems to be a very positive situation. Very many of the stallions and mares featured are good at more than one job, with many competing or simply being enjoyed in all sorts of ridden and driven activities.
It is quite possible that I have crashed through all sorts of official / unnofficial, UK registered / Non UK registered barriers whilst compiling this page. My criteria have been very flexible: if it looks like a cob and its parents were welsh, then I've added it in! If anyone was interested in purchasing an animal for breeding purposes the progeny of which might require a UK WPCS passport, obviously this matter would need looking into in far greater detail.
Even transfering a horse from Devon to Cumbria is costly these days, we shouldn't dismiss these fellow welsh lovers as our potential customers, there are plenty of people regularly exporting from our bigger sales: I'd say there's a certain lorry driver that must have developed quite a taste for Apple Strudel and Gravadlax by now! And even if you think exporting is not your thing, it's still quite interesting seeing what some of the leased stallions are producing: you'll be better informed when they come trotting back to the UK after they've finished wooing the continental mares.

I've put the main HQ of each country, as there are of course many more studs in each country that haven't created a website yet, many of the HQs have stud lists, which may be of interest if you have exported in the past and are interested in tracing an animal. They also have details of annual shows, so you could surrepticiously book a short teutonic break to coincide with the annual show in the chosen country maybe?
